Capitated Managed Care
Does It Ever Make Sense In Private Dental Practice?

BACKGROUND

by Thomas J. Veryser, DDS, MHSA

BACKGROUND

As we all know, there has been a tremendous increase in the number of enrollees in Capitated Managed Care Programs nationwide. Most dental practitioners have little or no experience with this type of reimbursement method, and are frankly very reluctant to get involved. This course attempts to inform the private practitioner of the economic rationale and market forces that are contributing to this change and to help the practitioner understand and evaluate capitated programs. This course is intended to be a primer on the subject - NOT an extensive in-depth analysis.

The course director is Thomas J. Veryser, DDS, MHSA, a lecturer on Practice Management topics at both The University of Michigan and the University of Detroit Mercy Schools of Dentistry. Dr. Veryser has engaged in private general practice for over twenty years in rural Michigan and in 1992 completed the master of health services administration program at The University of Michigan, School of Public Health’s department of Health Services Management and Policy. Since that time, Dr. Veryser has been engaged in dental and medical healthcare consulting - working on projects to empower groups of physicians and dentists to deal effectively with the changing healthcare marketplace.
